During the school year:
Become a classroom partner at Murdock Elementary School and show Jesus' compassion by partnering with one teacher. A partner makes it their mission to bless the students, parents and teacher and is encouraged to invite friends or a small group into the effort. You don't need to do this alone!

Lafayette Urban Mission (LUM) provides an after school program for children five to 11 years old from 2:00-6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Volunteers set up for daily program needs, help children with homework, and supervise play time.

Summer programming:
5th Quarter Summer Learning Program:
Lafayette Urban Mission (LUM) provides summer activities from May 31 to August 5. The program runs Monday - Friday from 7:00am - 6:00pm. Volunteers provide general support for summer youth programs including academic support and enrichment, food preparation, chaperoning field trips, and providing supervision for recreation, arts, and crafts.

LUM Camp:
LUM takes kids from eight to 10 years old to Hanging Rock Camp in Warren, Indiana, for a week each summer. Volunteer counselors are needed and are responsible for a group of ten children during LUM Camp. LUM Camp counselors instill confidence, rejoice in accomplishment, help nurture self-esteem and support each child through the wonderful week that is LUM camp.

Isaiah 117 House provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting placement.

Help Foster Families:
Come alongside a foster care family to provide encouragement and help. This could mean bringing a meal twice a month, helping with rides, helping with occasional childcare or house cleaning or something else that fits your gifting and would encourage the family.

Be A Foster Family:
Provide a temporary home for children who can no longer live in their home due to the risk of abuse or neglect.
With a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer dedicated to their case, Lafayette’s most vulnerable children will have someone speaking up for their best interests. With your support, more children will have the opportunity to thrive in a safe and loving home.

ALONGSIDE EXPECTANT MOMS
If you enjoy organizing, being a sorter in our clothing room is for you! You will spend your time sorting and organizing baby clothing and baby supplies. This directly impacts the parents who come to Bravely by providing them with an essential need – giving them one less thing to worry about while making important life-changing decisions

In this position, you help the women coming in find whatever they need while also listening and being present to their current situation – offering resources and further help, if applicable. This role enables you to offer extra support to a woman parenting on her own or in other difficult circumstances and provide critical supplies to families who need it most.

When a woman calls or comes through the door, the first person she often encounters is our receptionist. This is an important position to fill as these women are often in crisis. Tasks at reception include, but are not limited to, answering phones, greeting clients, and doing clerical work, such as filing, communicating with volunteers, and more.

ĒMA Advocates are trained volunteers with a passion to see families preserved through mother advocacy. The ĒMA Advocate builds a meaningful connection with one mom, works with her towards her goals, is a voice for her progress and needs in the community, and helps her stay connected to support. When a mom has an advocate, she receives holistic care that solely stems from a place of relationship.

I Decide For Me is a sexual risk avoidance program taught in local high schools. Its aim is to make each student aware of his or her true value and worth, the benefits of abstinence, and the risks of being sexually active before marriage. Your role would be to visit local schools and facilitate this program using the material and training provided through the I Decide for Me curriculum.

Sidewalk advocates maintain a peaceful, prayerful, and law-abiding presence on the sidewalk outside of Planned Parenthood in Lafayette. Sidewalk advocates lovingly and boldly engage with clients entering Planned Parenthood in efforts to redirect them to Bravely Women's Health. They offer clients help and hope by connecting them with other resources in the community for their health needs

Medical volunteers collect basic information and vitals and necessary samples. Medical volunteers must be professional, knowledgeable, and caring.

Medical providers conduct well-woman exams which include pap smears and STI testing, if necessary. They verify health history, assess patients, and determine necessary tests. Medical providers must be professional, knowledgeable, and caring.

Medical nursing volunteers see patients for basic STI testing and helping with STI callbacks. These volunteers verify medical history, assess needs, gather urine/samples (patients self-swab per CDC), and decide on testing or referrals. Medical nursing volunteers must be professional, knowledgeable, and caring.

Candy Cruise:
The Salvation Army hosts this event in its parking lot each fall. Community agencies, organizations, and members host trunks to distribute information, candy, and other items to families.

Tools for Schools:
At the end of every summer, The Salvation Army provides backpacks and school supplies to students in Tippecanoe County. Volunteers help plan the event, pack and sort donated items for distribution, set up for the event, operate the Tools for Schools distribution, and clean up.

Angel Tree:
Each winter, The Salvation Army provides hundreds of Tippecanoe County families with Christmas gifts for their children. Volunteers help sort and pack gifts, help parents enroll their children, facilitate the distribution event, organize pickup schedules for the families enrolled, and provide general support.

Winter Warm Up:
Each fall, The Salvation Army provides winter coats to hundreds of individuals. Volunteers help pick up, sort, and arrange the coats, distribute the coats to individuals and families in need, and provide general support for the event.

Community Thanksgiving Feast:
LUM provides a Thanksgiving Day meal to community members, from noon – 2:00pm. Volunteers help prepare, serve, entertain, host, greet, set up, and clean up.

Salvation Army Food Pantry:
This pantry is open on Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00am – 12:00pm. Volunteers assist clients in obtaining items from the food pantry. Volunteers also receive food pantry deliveries and sort and stock the food pantry Tuesday mornings, 8:00am – 12:00pm.

Tippecanoe County United Food Pantry, Inc.:
Covenant regularly supports this pantry by providing non-perishable food and volunteers. Drop off donations to the pantry cabinet in the Reception hallway, or write a check to Covenant with "Food Pantry" written on the memo line.

Lafayette Urban Ministries Food Pantries:
LUM currently operates pantries at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Lafayette, and at 333 Meridian Street, West Lafayette. Volunteers set up, organize food, distribute bags, greet clients, and clean. Volunteers also offer support by unloading food deliveries and doing data entry.

LUM Food Rescue:
LUM rescues food from local restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores, currently receiving food from Great Harvest, Panera, and Starbucks. Volunteers are needed to help pick up and transport these food items to LUM pantries.

Financial Assistance Program:
Lafayette Urban Ministry provides clients with financial assistance for rent and utilities. Volunteers assist clients with emergency financial needs, including rent, medication, and utilities by conducting client intake interviews and assessments weekday mornings, 8:00-10:00am.

Tax Assistance:
LUM provides tax assistance to Tippecanoe County residents from January through April. Volunteers prepare tax returns using software provided by the IRS. Volunteers must become certified by the IRS. Training is provided.

Immigration Clinic:
The Lafayette Urban Ministry Immigration Clinic helps people navigate the often difficult and confusing Immigration and Naturalization Service bureaucracy. Volunteers provide administrative assistance to program directors, serve as translators (particularly providing translation services for Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Arabic, German, and French speaking clients), take part in community outreach events, and provide correspondence via social media.

Emergency Shelter/Winter Warm Up:
Every night, LUM provides emergency overnight shelter to those in the Greater Lafayette area experiencing homelessness. LUM also provides the Winter Warming Station, a drop-in shelter at the LUM office building, from November to April for individuals experiencing homelessness to get out of the winter weather. Volunteers provide and serve nightly meals. Volunteers can also offer to stay overnight, providing assistance and service throughout the night for both the Emergency Shelter and the Winter Warming Station.

Bus Drivers:
LUM provides transportation for various programs including the After School Program, 5th Quarter Summer Learning program, and occasionally the Emergency Shelter. Volunteers drive a 14-passenger bus for various events and are required to have a valid driver’s license, pass driver’s test for PPL, have a good driving record, and must pass a physical exam.

Salvation Army Front Desk/Receptionist Volunteers:
Volunteers answer the phone, take messages, and direct clients throughout the week during business hours. Shifts are flexible and work is adaptable to anyone’s skill set.

Thrift Store Volunteers:
Volunteer at the Lafayette or Crawfordsville retail stores to sort donated items and stock shelves. Retail stores are open from 9:00am – 6:00pm, Monday through Saturday.

The House the Schools Built:
Habitat is currently building a house for a local family. It takes approximately 200 volunteers to build a Habitat for Humanity home.
