Join us Sunday, June 2, in both services when the sermon will focus on the "Golden Rule" passage found in Matthew 7:12, in which Jesus teaches us to do to others what we would have them do to us. We'll explore this scripture in light of the conversations we are called into across lines of difference, particularly important during a heated election year in a divided land.
Sunday, June 2 Point of View
Matthew 7.12
Jesus teaches us to do to others what we would have them do to us. While this “Golden Rule” is a relevant principal for all arenas of life, it is especially apropos during a heated election year in a divided land, when we are often called into conversations across lines of difference.
Wednesday, June 5 (7:00pm) Colony of Heaven Workshop: Learning How to Explore Someone Else’s Point of View
Sanctuary
Engaging across lines of difference seems like a good thing in principal, but how do you actually do it? This equipping evening is designed as a hands-on practice session to help us learn how to relate across lines of difference with curiosity and grace. How do you listen, explore, clarify, and engage another person’s point of view without getting in an argument? First we’ll talk about some practical tips. Then we’ll give it a try. We’ve picked a couple of non-political, non-personal subjects (our favorite area restaurant and our views on children’s education) to share our views on, creating a safe setting for us to explore these with our brothers and sisters in the church family. We think it will be helpful, encouraging, and fun.
