After His resurrection Jesus explained to the disciples all that was written about Him in the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms (Luke 24:27, 44). Clearly, the three major divisions of the Old Testament declare the coming of the Christ, His suffering, death and resurrection—along with how repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations beginning in Jerusalem (Luke 24:45-49).
Wouldn’t that have been a great Bible study to sit in on!
This summer we will trace some themes Jesus must have shared with the disciples, following the themes from their Old Testament introduction to their fulfillment in Jesus. Each message is designed to stand on its own, but each will also be deepened when seen in light of the others.
God’s redemptive plan focuses on Christ and His glory (Eph 1:10). It is a plan that was hidden in the past but is now made known to us (Eph 3:4-5, 9). This means scripture is a unified story which reveals God’s heart as it points to Jesus.
Gaining clarity on God’s heart for us will help us more readily recognize His presence and work in all areas of our lives. As He did with his earliest disciples, may the Lord open our minds to understand the Scriptures and His heart for us all.
