“O come, O come, Immanuel,
and ransom captive Israel,
that mourns in lonely exile here . . .”
Covid has disrupted everything. As Christmas draws near, we especially feel that. All of the traditions, the family visits that mean so much – have been tossed into the air.
We find ourselves grumpy and lonely and frustrated and disappointed – at odds with this world, at odds with one another, at odds even with ourselves.
During this virus-sabotaged holiday season, in which we all feel like we are living in exile and not at home in this world, we remember and reclaim what is true: the incarnation means, no matter what happens in this world, or within ourselves, we can welcome Christ into our homes for the holidays.
