Christmas Eve

Sundays in Advent

“O come, O come, Immanuel,

and ransom captive Israel,

that mourns in lonely exile here . . .”

Covid has disrupted everything. As Christmas draws near, we especially feel that. All of the traditions, the family visits that mean so much – have been tossed into the air.

We find ourselves grumpy and lonely and frustrated and disappointed – at odds with this world, at odds with one another, at odds even with ourselves.

During this virus-sabotaged holiday season, in which we all feel like we are living in exile and not at home in this world, we remember and reclaim what is true: the incarnation means, no matter what happens in this world, or within ourselves, we can welcome Christ into our homes for the holidays.

Advent Wreath

We invite you to join us in lighting the Advent wreath each Sunday.

You can create an Advent wreath at home - it can be as simple or as elaborate as you'd like.

You need five candles: four of any color (red or purple are most common) and one white one. Arrange them so the colored candles surround the white candle, which is called the Christ candle.

We will light one candle each successive Sunday of Advent, culminating with lighting the Christ candle on Christmas Eve.
