My primary responsibility is to encourage our spiritual vitality as a congregation and to lead us to grow in faithfulness to God's call on our lives. How kind God is to invite me to serve Him, especially among His people at Covenant! In high school and college I was an atheist and my heart was turned away from God, yet God was merciful to woo me to Himself and to invite me into His service.
Sharon and I celebrated thirty years of marriage in August, and I am so grateful to share life with this beautiful and gifted woman! We have five precious kids, four by birth (Brandon, Sean, Molly, and Corrie) and one by marriage (Christy). My interests are wide: spending time with family, the outdoors (I've been known to climb on my roof to enjoy a beautiful sunset), reading (I particularly love the writings of CS Lewis and the poetry of George Herbert), writing, sharing my faith, puns, good movies (The Princess Bride, of course), the firepit with friends, photography, rocks, and more.

As Covenant’s Associate Pastor for Learning and Relating I get to meet people where they are in their walk with Christ and join with them in our ongoing journey. There is no greater joy for me than this. My ministry training began in college through the ministry of Cru. Following two years on Cru staff, I received formal ministry training through Gordon-Conwell Seminary followed a decade later by doctoral studies in Spiritual Formation through Fuller Seminary. I have been in pastoral ministry for 25 years, 16 of those serving at Covenant and 9 as the Senior Pastor of Whitworth Presbyterian in Spokane, WA.
Along the way the Lord has blessed me with an amazing wife, Anne, and four children ranging in age from 25 to 12. Through it all we have found that marriage and parenting—especially parenting a disabled child—have been a profound catalyst for our spiritual growth. I enjoy solitary hikes (especially in the mountains), connecting with others and seeing God’s fingerprints in nature.

I am so thankful to be serving in a role where I get to see the Holy Spirit move in so many different circumstances and lives including my own; drawing us to Christ and making us look more and more like Jesus over time. What a gift to experience this while serving alongside others who are seeking to grow in Christ and further His Kingdom in the world. My specific role at Covenant exists to identify, equip and encourage pastoral and ministry staff and lay leaders to further the vision and plan of the church, day-to-day, trusting God to bring growth and progress. This role also exists to ensure our campus, support services and resources are focused on moving Covenant’s mission forward.
I’ve worked in higher education and the private sector. I graduated with a degree in Religion from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, where I met my beautiful wife, Kristen! I received a Master’s Degree from Cornell University, studying Industrial and Labor Relations. I'm thankful for two fantastic kids, Kyle and Kelsey! I really enjoy hanging out, doing just about anything with my wife and two children. Also, I enjoy reading (current favorite authors: Jesus’ brother James, Tim Keller, David Benner, Patrick Lencioni and Brennan Manning), taking road trips, eating breakfast at Route 66 in West Lafayette, and engaging in anything related to football and soccer!

I’m blessed to be a part of this team at Covenant! As the Connections Pastor, I oversee our welcome ministry, and lead in the overall efforts to encourage those in our church family to take a next step of growth in their walk with Jesus.
After graduating from Huntington University with a degree in Educational Ministries, I spent nine exciting years as the Junior High Youth Pastor at Covenant. While doing so, I completed a Masters Degree in Christian Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. After that, the Lord led me to serve Covenant in a different capacity, as Connections Pastor, where it has been my joy to walk alongside many in this church family, encouraging them in their own walk with Jesus.
While living in West Lafayette, God has blessed me with my wife, Amanda, and three great kiddos, Ashley, Ryan, and Josiah. I love any chance I get to be outdoors in God's beautiful creation - walking with my wife, playing at parks with my kids, playing sports with friends, or sitting on a lawn chair with a breeze on my face and a book in my hands.

I have the unique opportunity and great joy to serve as director of the Children and Families Ministry and Kids Alive Preschool in the church where I grew up attending as a child. I have a passion for children and their families that I believe is rooted in the fact that I came into relationship with Jesus as a young child through the influence of my family and Covenant Church. My passion for children first translated into a teaching career in Manhattan, Kansas, and Summit County, Colorado, where I taught 1st, 4th, and 6th grades and was the media specialist in a middle school.
God led my husband, Michael, and son, Jacob, “back home again in Indiana” in 2000 to help care for my aging parents. I was offered a job teaching preschool at Kids Alive and then became the director. I continued teaching until 2005, when I took on my current role. I am convinced that Jesus uses people of all ages to further His kingdom and I believe that students can not only have a vibrant relationship with Jesus at a young age, but Jesus can use them fully in the lives of others. I am blessed to be able to use my teaching skills on Sundays and at camps, and I love getting to stay connected with students as they go into junior and senior high by going with them to Great Escape, Winter Extreme and Colorado Challenge.
I have a t-shirt from Peter Pan that I think best describes me, “I won’t grow up!”, and although I continue to grow into maturity in my faith, I am just a kid at heart. Most of the time you will find me enjoying sports, (especially soccer at West Lafayette High School), reading, taking walks or spending time with my family. I love to laugh, travel and be with friends.

Very early in my life the Lord gave me a great appreciation for the faithful Sunday school teachers and youth leaders that shared the good news about Jesus Christ with me and cared for me. As I grew in my faith in Christ, He made me excited about serving young people and their families the same way that God had prompted others to do for me. I’ve had the pleasure of serving youth and their families for about 18 years. God has been so kind to put me in awesome places like Evangelical Community Church (EPC) in Cincinnati, Ohio, Faith Community Church (EFC) in Louisville, Kentucky, and Southern Seminary in Louisville. Shortly after completing my seminary work, we received the call to come to Covenant Church. We are so thankful to God for his kindness in bringing us here!
I’ve been married to my beautiful wife, Jodi, for 14 years and we are blessed to have six children: Titus, Sam, Mara, Lily, Drew, and Cohen. I enjoy: talking about the goodness of God in all areas of life, watching and playing sports, eating cereal with my family, going out on dates and relaxing with my wife, the skillful and delicious cooking of my wife, playing Legos and cars with my boys, watching the random dance shows of my girls, reading all different kinds of books, and spending time with our Growth Group. God is good!
